## New Jersey Independent Artist Calls for Artists Affected by DistroKid
and Streaming-Platform Distribution Bans to Come Forward
**For Immediate Release**
**August 26, 2026**
### John J. Cannon, also known as John, Jai Beam and Cannon,
seeks to connect with artists who have received similar distribution bans or
unexplained rejections from DistroKid and major streaming platforms
**RIVER EDGE, NEW JERSEY** — John J. Cannon, an independent producer, engineer, musician and entrepreneur
from New Jersey, is calling on musicians and other independent artists who
have experienced similar distribution restrictions from DistroKid, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and other streaming platforms to come forward and share their experiences.
Cannon, who has been creating music since **1985** and operating his recording and production business **NJ Sound LLC**
in River Edge, New Jersey, since 2012, says he was recently informed by DistroKid that stores and
streaming services had rejected one or more of his releases and that DistroKid would no longer accept his future releases.
Cannon is seeking to determine whether other independent artists have received substantially similar notices and whether there is a broader pattern involving unexplained removal, rejection or restriction of
music distributed through major digital music platforms.
### The DistroKid Notice
Cannon received the following message from DistroKid Support on August 20, 2026:
> "**Man (DistroKid)**
> Aug 20, 2026, 05:50 EDT
>
> Hi,
>
> Hope you are well.
>
> We've been notified by stores and streaming services that
one or more of your releases has been rejected due to editorial discretion.
>
> Unfortunately, stores are no longer accepting releases
from you via DistroKid. You’ll need to try another distributor for future releases.
>
> Please understand that DistroKid is unable to assist with reversing
this and many DistroKid features have also been restricted as a result of this.
We have no other information or context, and we are unable
to get involved or take sides when this occurs.
>
> We’re just the messenger,
passing along this info to you in hopes
you find it helpful.
>
> We understand that this email is probably frustrating to you,
and we regret having to be the messenger of bad news. However,
we hope this email is helpful, and we thank you for your understanding.
>
> Best,
>
> Man
> DistroKid Support"
Cannon says the notice raises significant questions because it does not
identify the specific release, platform, alleged violation, decision-making criteria, review process
or meaningful avenue of appeal.
### A Question of Artistic Freedom and Platform Power
Cannon believes that independent musicians deserve transparency
when their ability to distribute their creative work is restricted.
He is particularly concerned about the concentration of power held
by major digital music platforms and distributors over an artist's ability to reach the public.
"This isn't simply about one song or one account," Cannon said.
"I've been creating music since 1985. I've built a career around music, technology, entrepreneurship and independent production.
When an artist is told that major platforms will no longer accept their work, but isn't given a meaningful explanation or opportunity to challenge the decision,
it raises serious questions about fairness, transparency and the future of artistic expression."
Cannon intends to investigate whether similar experiences
have affected other artists and whether there may be grounds for legal action.
### Important Legal Distinction
Cannon is **not presently asserting that DistroKid,
Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music or any other private company has been legally
determined to have violated the First Amendment or other civil-rights laws**.
The First Amendment generally restricts government censorship rather than
the editorial decisions of private companies. However, Cannon believes that the circumstances surrounding digital distribution decisions warrant investigation,
particularly where private platforms collectively control access to enormous portions of the music marketplace.
Among the questions he wants investigated are:
* What specific criteria are being used to reject artists or releases?
* Are artists being given adequate notice of the alleged problem?
* Are artists provided with meaningful appeal or review procedures?
* Are decisions being made consistently across similarly situated artists?
* Can an artist effectively challenge an unexplained distribution ban?
* What information is shared between distributors and streaming platforms when an artist is restricted?
* Are independent artists receiving adequate due process within
the contractual and commercial systems that determine whether their work can reach the public?
* Are there broader antitrust, consumer-protection,
contractual or other legal issues that should be examined?
### Call for Other Artists to Come Forward
Cannon is asking musicians, producers, labels and other
independent creators who have received similar notices or
experienced unexplained distribution restrictions to contact him.
**Email:** [jaibeam21@gmail.com](mailto:jaibeam21@gmail.com)
**Website:** jaibeam.com
Those contacting Cannon are encouraged to describe what happened
, identify the distributor or platform involved, provide the approximate
date of the action, and preserve copies of relevant emails, notices, contracts,
account restrictions and other documentation.
Cannon hopes to connect affected artists with one another and eventually
present the collected experiences to qualified attorneys for evaluation of potential legal claims, including whether a **class action lawsuit or other coordinated
legal action** may be appropriate.

## John J. Cannon Unveils *Dreams or Delusions*:
49 Tracks From a Life of Music, Art and Transformation
**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
**RIVER EDGE, NEW JERSEY** — On **September 9, 2026**,
independent musician, composer, producer and recording engineer **John J. Cannon**,
known across the internet and music world as **John, Jai Beam and Cannon**,
will release his ambitious 49-track experimental album, *Dreams or Delusions*, worldwide.
The album represents more than a collection of songs. It is the latest chapter
in a musical journey that began in **1985**, when Cannon started creating music and exploring the possibilities of sound,
technology and imagination.
For Cannon, music has always been a way to explore
experiences that can be difficult to express through words.
Cannon has lived with bipolar disorder since he was 18
and describes music as one of the most important creative forces in his life.
After years of personal challenges, he says he has reached a greater sense
of clarity and stability and is using that perspective to continue creating and encouraging others to
explore their own talents.
### Creating His Own Musical Future
In **2009**, Cannon began describing his distinctive approach
to music and art as **"Futuristic"**—a creative direction combining experimental composition, electronic sounds,
technology and unconventional ideas.
Over the decades, he has composed **hundreds of original pieces**,
creating a catalog that reflects his continuing fascination with the relationship between technology, emotion and human creativity.
His work has never been confined to
conventional musical boundaries.
In 2013, Cannon explored the subject of expression and individual
voice with his work *Freedom of Speech? First Race*,
continuing his interest in creating music that asks questions rather than simply providing answers.
### NJ Sound: Capturing the Human Experience
Since **August 2012**, Cannon has operated **NJ Sound LLC** in River Edge,
New Jersey, where he records and produces music in a professional **2,200-square-foot, seven-room studio**.
NJ Sound has become an important part of Cannon's creative mission.
Alongside developing his own music, he works with musicians and other creators, helping them transform ideas,
emotions and personal experiences into recorded works.
Cannon believes that every artist has a story worth preserving.
His studio provides a place where artists can experiment,
take creative risks and capture performances that might otherwise disappear with time.
### Turning Experience Into Creativity
With *Dreams or Delusions*, Cannon brings together 49 experimental
tracks representing another stage in his ongoing exploration of music and consciousness.
The album's title reflects the questions at the heart of his creative philosophy:
Where does imagination end and reality begin? Can difficult experiences become creative inspiration?
And what happens when an artist refuses to stop exploring?
Cannon hopes his story will encourage people facing their own challenges to recognize that their
creative abilities can become an important part of their personal journey.
His message is ultimately one of possibility: **creativity can provide
a way to explore who we are, where we've been and where we might go next.**
